SEATRU (22 - 27 May)

Sea Turtle Research Unit (SEATRU) from University Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) has organized a volunteer program for us to take the initiative to take care the turtle. For me, it is a very fun and meaningful program.

During the weeks, I managed to see many turtles came up to the beach to lay eggs. We need to wait for the turtle to lay eggs. It takes a very long time which up to few hours. However, some of the turtle came up for few hours but the turtle did not lay eggs and back to the sea. It was quite disappointed for our patient to wait for the turtle.

It was my first time to sleep at the beach while we wait for the turtle. Another reason is the weather in the huts is very hot until us not able to sleep at night. By the way, we not really have time to sleep at night because we have to wait for the turtle at night.

During the daytime, we need to check the nest of the turtle eggs to make sure nothing is attacking the turtle nest. Besides doing the volunteer job, we can also go for snorkeling, prawn spa, and jungle trekking at turtle rock. Unfortunately, I fall down when we went for the jungle trekking. Luckily, the injury is not that big.

Overall of the program, it was a very good experience for us in life. We have chance to play around with the big or small turtle for a week. I will never regret to go for the program and hope I have chance to go for the next time in the future.
